Gratitude

My journey, right from my school days to NDA, IMA and then to this prestigious institution, has never been a pre-planned one. One fine morning I decided to opt for the exam and with god's grace and my mom's complete faith, here I am... walking amidst the densest forest, climbing the rigid rocks, crossing the mighty rivers and holding my head high; serving the nation.
Now, as I pass by the unknown faces in some unknown land I realize what life has gifted to me in these years. Arunachal Pradesh is a beauty in disguise. The rocky mountains behold the pristine views underneath. Away from the city, the remoteness will haunt you long after you visit the place. Such is the extent of its charm. Being a travelling soul, I thrive on wanderlust. My profession offers me a plethora of excitement, thrill, adventure and a pinch of risk at every step. Cool, ain't that?
Imagine a day when you suddenly wake up to a blast and find the front view blurred with smoke and all you could utter is, "It would be fun!" That's what my work is. Playing with death and defeating the evils before it can take a step ahead to harm my motherland's peace.
While we stayed awake for days without sleep, my countrymen enjoyed the peace. Being a civilian, perhaps I could have never understood what it actually takes to be free. But now as I walk in my boots, at every step I feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulder.
People gets suffocated at their cozy beds while they breathe the air without knowing that someone choked at the frontier as the enemy's grenade didn't miss the bunker. Roaming around the city turns out to be tough during summer, without having an idea of how cold can be poisonous at the highest battlefield. Standing up for the anthem raises question at one side, while few came home after months, wrapped in the tricolour.
It saddens us at times and then we know that nothing can make us weak as it's the endless love for the motherland which keeps us going through the toughest ways in the hardest of situations.
While thoughts remain buried, the responsibilities never go unattended. As the news keep affecting our minds at times, few unusual things keep us going. During our regular patrolling I come across few smiling faces which at times follow us even after we leave them far behind, keeping our morale high and our determination higher.
Posting occurs, places change, people fade away but the sight of a little guy saluting with pride in eyes, faith in mind and blessings from within, they don't leave us. Even after years of the incident, it remains fresh as a dew drop, nourishing the wounds from time to time.
Neither money, nor power can buy it. The uniform has its aura with which you earn it. While you earn a wealthy package per month, I earn a number of salutes per day. You dream for comfort, we pay for freedom.

Dear Countrymen, gratitude keeps us going. Faith keeps us alive!

The Winds That No More Hums The Happy Tale!

Things went magically insane the very moment someone's presence rejuvenated life back into the dead city of mine. A gush of wind passed by in the wind hushing some symphony of belongingness. I stood still for a while in amusement looking at the way things were around, all of a sudden. The sick old tree beside the lake had tiny green leaves peeping out from the lifeless branch. The heart sighed after a long; the change was for good. It was almost evening and the dark didn't scare me. The lonely cuckoo was duetting with some other bird which I failed to recognize. My world was getting dipped into the leftover of the sunset, all magical and bright.  Almost a month passed since that day. Today, the wind reminded me of that time when he arrived with hands full of amusement, restlessness, sparkles and magic. The wind is crisp and soothing, despite all the heated situations in between. May be it's not the city, may be it's not the wind nor even those golden hues. May be it is ...

Lunch at Officers’ Mess

A Civilian’s Dilemma! Subha ka nashta room pe karenge! Dopeher ka khana Mess me khayenge! Madam ki shopping CSD me karenge! “Koyi Shaq?” “No Sir!” my josh-type reply came hearing his full day plan. With the almighty being graceful, my man was in town and I had all the reasons to be super happy. It was the month of May and with that came the soul wrenching heat. I hate summer, but more than me there’s someone who hate this season to the core. With back to back cancellation of leave I had almost given up on destiny and was completely hopeless about our much awaited meeting. But these men in uniform tend to surprise you at the moments when you least expect that. His CO finally decided to show some mercy on him and the day before his sailing was about to start, his leave was granted which was in no way expected. Okay! So my man is in Indian Navy, ruling the ocean and my heart at the same time. I have clearly no idea of why and what things take such turn whenever h...

A Hibiscus for You Ma'am!

Believe me when I say that being in love is more than feeling butterflies in tummy, witnessing romantic sunset and walking hand-in-hand. When you are in love, the whole world suddenly feels upside down! My love story, as I always say, is not about the mushy stuffs but like a Tonga-ride; exciting, fancy yet dangerous (Only if you don't know how to ride it).  Rather than stating how much we love each other, we always preferred saying how much we missed each other. Instead of making the other one blush, we laughed our heart out with silly remarks. Romantic dates were always supplanted by 'Let's have Pizza today!' plans. Above all, not to forget our first ever attempt for a date. While one would precisely choose some garden, cafe, park, restaurant, beach or anything on earth, my darling chose Temples! Exactly, you read it right. As I have shared with you earlier on 'Temple Saga'. Well, I can't fully blame him as I am equally hopeless when it comes to execut...
